Our Why

Tabletop Role Playing Games (TTRPG’s) have been around for decades, but they have been mostly the domain of the teenage (usually male!) introvert. More recently, the world of TTRPG’s has been opening up and becoming more inclusive, and as a result, more and more players are enjoying the creativity, freedom, and sheer joy that comes with finding your place at the table.

Although learning the rules (and there are lots of rules!) can seem like a barrier, young minds just absorb information, and kids who discover the love of D&D frequently go from reluctant readers to absolute knowledge banks in a short space of time. Our games allow kids to learn at their own pace, in an atmosphere of camaraderie and support.

With the upsurge of popularity of TTRPG’s, more and more research has been done on the benefits of playing together, with a special focus being on social skills, and social connection building. There are benefits for all of us in improving social connections, improving our social communication, and playing more. For kids especially, these skills are vital, and very rarely taught outside the family. For autistic kids, kids with ADHD, gifted kids, and kids with other brain and learning differences, these skills can mean the difference between feeling like they have friends and are successful at life, and feeling the constant judgement and hostility from others around them.

Our games are suitable for all kids, at all ability levels. We put a lot of consideration into matching up our teams, to make sure that every kid has the best chance of success. There may be times when we can’t place a particular kid, but we will continue to endeavour to find a team where every kid feels like an important part of the team, and a hero.
